Cashel Cllr Liam Browne comes out strongly against sulky racing

‘Anybody who justifies sulky racing on roads is an idiot’ according to a local councillor.

The comments from Cashel based Independent Liam Browne come in the wake of an ongoing debate in the county.

A protest against the practice was held in Clonmel recently following a number of events involving sulkies in recent weeks.

Speaking on Tipp Today, Cllr Browne says sulky racing should be banned:

“My issue is very simple, I do not think there should be any sulky racing on the roads, I think they should be banned.

“I think anybody participating in it should be prosecuted.

“Anybody who justifies running sulkies on roads and racing, i’m going to be straight, is an idiot.

“It shouldn’t be done, it is highly dangerous, it’s highly dangerous for the people on the sulkies, it’s highly dangerous for the public who are on the roads who have no idea what is coming around the bends so they are absolute idiots.”

Mr. Browne also added that something must be done before it is too late:

“All we are waiting for is someone to be badly hurt or killed on the road and the we will have the same discussion that we had about scooters, we will have the same dsicussions that we had about scramblers, we’ll have a ‘Grace’s Law’, god only knows who the name of the child or person will be that we will call the law after when somebody is killed off a sulky but I want to stop the practice before that happens.”
