A boil water notice affecting 8000 farms homes and businesses supplied by the Newport Water Treatment Pant has been lifted.
Uisce Éireann has made the decision water quality tests were carried out.
Families and businesses in Newport, Ballina, Birdhill, Ballinahinch, Killoscully and surrounding areas are being told they can return to using their water supply as normal following the lifting of the Boil Water Notice.
The boil water notice was put in place on September 5th when the treatment plant became unable to effectively treat the water coming into it.
Upgrades at the treatment plant were carried out this month and a series water quality tests have now proved satisfactory.
However, Uisce Éireann says its cannot guarantee that further boil water notices will not be called in the future until additional filtration upgrades to enable it to respond more effectively are complete.
Until then the Newport supply remains vulnerable.
Work on those upgrades are ongoing and are due to be completed by the end of the year.
