Local GRA rep Richie Kennedy says it will continue to do so over the coming six months.

It will be the biggest policing and security operation in the history of the State.

Garda Kennedy told Tipp Today earlier that a lot of members of the force based in Tipperary were already in Cork last week with similar concerns until the end of the year for an already stretched division.

“As it is at the moment, we’re very reliant on overtime to backfill units to put patrol cars out. Those members won’t be available in these instances because the Garda Commissioner is cancelling their days off where they would normally maybe take a days overtime to cover cars.

We work a ‘4 on – 4 off’ shift – there was one unit last week and out of their four days off they lost three. Sent down to Cork – they came off nights at 7 o’clock in the morning. They had that day off and then they lost their three days off, came back to work then in Tipperary after that so it will definitely have an effect on what we can do locally.”
